New Construction Window Supply: Schedule, Specifications & Delivery

Updated

A new construction white vinyl window frame with a visible nailing fin set into a wood-framed wall opening on an active construction site.

A useful window supply plan connects the drawings, product quote and delivery schedule. Give each opening a consistent identifier so the builder, designer, supplier and installer can discuss the same unit. Confirm who approves the final specifications and who receives the products before placing the order.

Create a numbered opening schedule

For each opening, record the quantity, room or elevation, frame dimensions, operating style, glass, exterior and interior finish, grids and hardware. Include the drawing revision and identify any dimensions still awaiting approval.

For a combined window and door package, list entry-door frames, swing, glass, sidelites, transoms and hardware separately from window specifications. A common supplier does not make all products identical in performance or installation requirements.

Confirm the frame and installation details

Panes windows can be configured with a nailing fin in Simplified or Pro. Confirm that the selected frame and installation method suit the wall assembly and the project documents. The fin, flashing and other fastening details must follow the product instructions and the project requirements.

Do not assume every replacement project uses an existing frame or every new build needs the same fin arrangement. Have the responsible installer or project professional approve the manufacturing dimensions and installation details.

Check the specified product performance

Provide the required performance criteria with the schedule and request documentation for the selected products and glass packages. Frame material, pane count and a coating name alone do not establish compliance for the building.

The responsible project professional should confirm applicable requirements and approve the selected assembly. Resolve substitutions before production rather than relying on a general promise that a window will pass inspection.

Separate approval, production and freight dates

Track drawing approval, final dimensions, order confirmation, production timing and freight transit as separate milestones. Ask which changes affect the schedule and confirm the current lead time for the actual product package.

Provide the site address, access restrictions, receiving contact and unloading arrangements. For staged construction, agree the delivery sequence with the supplier and site team before ordering; do not assume split deliveries are included.

Assign installation and receiving responsibilities

US projects use the customer’s contractor for measurement and installation. Canadian customers can ask about local installation availability for the project address. Identify who checks quantities and condition on delivery, stores the products and records any issue within the stated reporting period.

Keep the approved schedule, quote, order confirmation and installation instructions together. Compare products, freight, tax and separately quoted site work using the same scope, and document any item still unconfirmed.
